Kashmir Culture

Kashmiri culture is a unique blend of Hinduism, Muslim and Buddhism culture. The uniqueness of Kashmiri culture comes from variety of rituals, language, art, festivals and contribution from multicolor society. The blend of three unique cultures has given a vibrant and new dimension to Kashmir culture. Kashmir is best known for its spiritualism and its serenity environment which has attracted seers and sages from all over the world. The beautiful Himalayan range, lush green valley, roaring crystal clear rivers and four beautiful seasons in Kashmir make this land a truly paradise on earth.





Kashmiri Cuisine

The preparation of Kashmir cuisine is different from the rest of the India. First it differs in the spices used in cuisine and secondly it differs in methods they way dishes are cooked. The Kashmiri cuisine is mix of non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes.

The use of spices in Kashmir dishes is very common and addition of herbs and curd (yogurt) makes it rich in gravy. The staple diet of people living in Kashmir valley is Goat, lamb, chicken, fish, rice and fresh vegetables. The common name for kashmiri cooking is Wazwan On bigger occasions such as marriages and festivals wazwan is organized to feed large number of people. This job traditionally is done by cooks known as Wazas. On main occasions more then 36 dishes are cooked by cooks. These dishes are mix of non-vegetarian and vegetarian food.
